How to Make Paper Flowers
Category: Activities for Children
This check list is in the following categories:
A fun and inexpensive craft project for children. Tissue paper flowers are inexpensive and easy to assemble, and a great way to add a Mexican flare to a party or simple elegance to a wedding reception.
-
Cut several squares of colored tissue paper.
The size of the square will determine the size of the flower. Choose a variety of colors or use just one or two colors -- be creative and experiment.
-
Lay the squares on top of each other.
You may want to put a couple sheets of green on the bottom. Mix the colors or use just one or two colors -- be creative and experiment.
-
Starting at one edge of the pile, fold all layers back and forth to the other side of the square (like an accordion.)
Ideally, the folds should be about an inch wide.
-
Staple the middle to hold the folds in place, or wrap the center with a pipe-cleaner or wire.
If using a pipe-cleaner or wire, cut a long enough piece and let it hang down from the tissue paper -- this will become the stem of the flower.
-
You may want to secure an ornament to the middle (such as holly berries, a couple small bells, or any other small décor.)
-
Now gently pull each piece of tissue, one at a time, from the edge towards the center.
Be careful not to rip the tissue paper.
-
Once all the pieces are pulled up, you may want to bring the corners of the bottom piece together and staple to close the gap.
(Optional...depending on the size of the flower.)
-
If needed, trim the flower to make a rounded shape.
-
To make it sparkle, spray the flower with glue and sprinkle with glitter.
-
Wrap stem with green tape and add leaves, if desired.
